Dr. Cody Smith is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Pharmaceutical Sciences in the School of Pharmacy at the University of Connecticut. His research is focused on the role of macrophages in lung injury and repair following exposure to inhaled toxicants including ozone and mustard vesicants. Dr. Smith received his MS and PhD degrees in Toxicology from the University of Florida. He has published 18 articles and invited reviews and has received multiple awards for his research. His postdoctoral research was funded by an NIH F32 Postdoctoral Fellowship and more recently by an NIH K99/R00 Pathway to Independence Award. Dr. Smith is actively involved in the Society of Toxicology (SOT) serving in graduate and postdoctoral trainee leadership roles, most recently as postdoctoral representative for the Mid-Atlantic Regional Chapter. He has also organized and chaired sessions at the annual SOT meetings including a workshop entitled ‘Single Cell Applications in Mechanistic Toxicology”. Dr. Smith is also committed to training the next generation of pharmacists, toxicologists, and pharmacologists and has been actively involved in research mentoring undergraduate and graduate students in the laboratory and lecturing to graduate students in toxicology.
