Mohankumar Ramar
Postdoctoral Researcher
Dr. Mohankumar Ramar is a Postdoctoral researcher in the laboratory of Dr. Cody Smith in the Department of Pharmaceutical Sciences at the University of Connecticut School of Pharmacy. The focus of his postdoctoral studies is understanding mechanisms by which inhaled respiratory contaminants and pollutants cause lung disease. Dr. Ramar received his Bachelor of Pharmacy in 2007 and a Master’s in Pharmacology in 2010 from Dr MGR Medical University in Chennai, India. Dr. Ramar is a registered Pharmacist in India and completed his Ph.D. in Pharmaceutical Technology with a specialization in respiratory diseases at Anna University in Chennai, India in 2020. Dr. Ramar recently completed a postdoctoral fellowship in the Department of Surgical Research at Rhode Island Hospital at Brown University where he investigated the role of the gut microbiome in asthma and the effect of intra-airway epigenetic editing of the CXCL11 promoter on pulmonary fibrosis. He has additional experience in models of metabolic disease (diabetes, obesity, and NASH), arthritis, psoriasis and COPD. Dr. Ramar has published extensively in these areas as author/co-author of more than 30 research articles. In addition, he is a member of the American Association for Laboratory Animal Science (AALAS) and regularly serves as peer reviewer for various international journals. Beyond his research, Dr. Ramar has taught basic and clinical pharmacology to pharmacy, nursing, and other allied health students.
